Caps on? Cameras ready? Shoot!!!

Caps on? Cameras ready? Shoot!!!, originally uploaded by ShonC.

Lots of photography last weekend. Wohooo!

A long day at Ayutthaya (including a lunch cruise back to Bangkok) followed by a blues night at the Saxophone bar and a Thai movie on the history of Ayutthaya on Sunday to finish off a weekend soaked with culture and history.

Some interesting factoids:

Only a dragon that belongs to a king can have 5 claws. A high up official may have a dragon with 4 claws, but a common man can only have a 3 clawed dragon. So check any image of a dragon you might own and tell me how many claws it has. You might by royalty in the making!

A meditating Buddha image usually has folded legs, eyes closed and one palm on top of the other. At one point some evil forces tried to distract him so he opened his eyes and pointed his right hand to the ground, summoning mother earth. Mother Earth to the rescue!!! (I'm imagining a heavy set woman, wearing a sari and lots of gold jewelry! That might have something to do with an overdose of commercialized Ramayan and Mahabharat while growing up.) She simply wringed out the water in her hair, which formed a river around Buddha, creating a barrier against the evil distractions. Mother earth rocks! Go Buddha!

Hey ,
I can relate to the heavy doze of commercialized Ramayan and Mahabharat and thank you for the story about the claw theory , I think i have one on my back that has about 5 claws, now i know i m no king = but since when has claws on a dragon you own makes you a king or a common man - but i have been following your blog for a while now and im seeing a development of a diff person in you , good or bad maybe your lens can tell me
keep up the good work -

Hello Anonymous!

Thank you for following my blog. To my knowledge the claw theory finds its roots in Chinese tradition. Tattoo artists who are aware of this tradition are careful not to give the common man a dragon with 5 claws. Of course with the passage of time as arts travel to different parts of the world, such traditions are bound to get diluted.

I'm quite surprised that you have noticed a development in my personality from the tiny window I've opened for the world to peep in. I wasn't aware my words or pictures were so loud. Or is this comment based on perceptions you formed through other interactions? Either ways, don't you think it's a bit harsh to judge personality developments as good or bad? Personally that sounds a bit too black and white an outlook to me.

Once again, thank you for following my blog and pictures!
